Brander is considered one of the "Benchmark Sauvignon Blancs" in California (even though he's located in the Santa Ynez Valley, where movie-watchers think only Burgundian varieties thrive!). Bryan Babcock has proven that there can be outstanding versions of this variety, coming from the Santa Ynez corridor. The pioneer of bordeaux varieties in the Santa Barbara area, Brander's vineyards are essentially everybody's nursery for cuttings of cabernet, sauvignon blanc, cab franc, and merlot. This is his latest release (2005 vintage) --- it's made of Sauvignon Blanc from Fred's estate and neighboring vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley with a touch of Semillon (and a dollop of Pinot Blanc, too). Enjoy! |
